The Western New York Railroad Archive is devoted to the history of railroading in Western New York State.  It contains information about the railroads of the area and the towns, villages, and cities they served.

We cover an area from the Pennsylvania border on the south and west, and to about Route 81 in the east. This allows us to include all of the Erie, Lackawanna, Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania and New York Central mainlines and branches in the region. We also cover many smailler railroads and electric railways.

About Us

The Western New York Railroad Archive was founded about 1995 by WNY native Mark Fischer. It is one of the oldest, continually operated websites dedicated to railroad history. Mark later relocated to Rochester, NY, and became associated with the Rochester Chapter, NRHS. The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum was founded in 1971 by Rochester Chapter members.

In 2008, Mark was joined by another WNY native, John Stewart, who founded in 1996. John is also an active member of teh Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. For the next three years additional content was added as it became available.

In 2011, The Western New York Railroad Archive entered another new era. It has become a project of the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum. It will be used as a vehicle to document and promote the rich railroad history of the region,
